Lockdown: a Time to Focus on You

Now that the Nation is in lockdown with no real knowing what happens next. The pace of life has taken a radical turn for the most it will be slower; we will have the time that modern-day life had robbed from us so why not use this time to reflect and think about what you really want?

I know I would like to win the lottery, buy a magical unicorn and ride that unicorn to a far and distant land where the sun shines every day and biscuits grow on trees.

Parts of this might not happen but with a little creative thought and some research I could get close…

What could you do to enhance your career? What can you do now to help you achieve your future goals? There are some great online courses out there enabling you to study at a pace that suits you, delivering an array of subjects with or without exams with more resources becoming available each day.

Tweak your CV to include your new qualifications, skills or achievements you have acquired over the last few weeks or months even if you aren’t currently looking for a new job it doesn’t mean someone else isn’t looking for someone exactly like you! be ready. They might just have a magical unicorn!

If you are looking for a new opportunity it might feel like your job is searching for a job, particularly during these uncharted times so remember to take a break. Whether that’s dipping into your favourite hobby or creating a network talking to others in the same boat. Taking a break and engaging in a confidence building activity can help you remain positive and focused.

So, before I start my search for equine studies and unicorn outfits for horses. I would like to leave you with one of my favourite quotes from Vivian Greene which for me feels particularly significant at this unprecedented time.

Let’s dance together.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass,

it’s about learning to dance in the rain”

 Vivian Greene
